PS 124
SPECIALTY CLASSES
Our talented specialty class teachers are passionate about their subject. In these classes, students develop their abilities as healthy artists, musicians, scientists.
Visual Arts
PS 124' s comprehensive art program emphasizes the joy and learning that come with making art. Working in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and collage, pre-k through fifth grade students explore the skills, vocabulary, history and self expression inherent to each medium with age appropriate projects.
PS 124's student artwork has been regularly accepted for exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through the PS Art program, and at the Museum of Modern Art in the Manhattan Borough Arts Fair. Student work is proudly exhibited on all the walls of the school.
music
Students are introduced to basics of music theory such as musical notation and dynamics. They learn to rehearse and perform music from a variety of musical styles and genres as well as write and perform their own compositions. Students sing, move, and play rhythm instruments, Orff xylophones and recorders in music class.
science
Students dive into experiments through hands-on activities and become little scientists who observe deeply to make science connections to everyday things.
Physical and earth science are covered by our two science teachers, Nancy Aglialoro & Ms. Melissa Wong, while life science is taught in the classroom.
